Villa Bionica / Ekaterina Yakovenko

Villa Bionica (Moscow Region, Russia) by Interior Designer Ekaterina Yakovenko. I began working on the interior design of this two-story, 1,400 m2 villa located in the Moscow Region at the architectural planning stage. The client’s brief focused on a modern design that would integrate the latest innovations in smart home technology, lighting systems, air humidification, and contemporary interior design trends. A key aspect was ensuring that smooth lines dominated the architecture, interiors, and landscape, creating a unified space where curved, biomorphic forms blend effortlessly.

Layout

The ground floor includes an open-plan space combining the living room, dining room, and kitchen. It also houses a spa complex with a 15-meter infinity pool, hammam, and sauna, along with a gym. This floor also houses a professional stainless steel kitchen for guest chefs, a server room, and a laundry room. The upper floor houses five bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom and dressing room, as well as an office.

Interior Concept

The design revolves around the fluid continuity of curved and flexible forms, which connect the architecture, the interiors, and the landscape. These biomorphic lines create a harmonious transition and promote a sense of unity with nature.

Color Palette

During the first site visit, a primary color palette was agreed upon: a metallic bronze hue for the kitchen, while the predominant furnishings were approved in light tones. In the living room, a terracotta accent is visible in the upholstery of the Turri sofa and the B&B Italia armchairs.

Finishing Materials

Five to six types of stone were used in the finishes, including Fior di Bosco marble in the common areas. Crystallo (semiprecious onyx) was used in a Henge design for the ceiling, while granite and quartzite decorate the kitchen backsplash and fireplace. The dining table is crafted from slabs of marble.

During the cutting of the slabs, a natural pattern reminiscent of the shape of a human foot was revealed, a motif repeated on the kitchen island and backsplash, as well as in the artwork selected for this area, Dmitry Shorin’s Yellow Submarine. As Leonardo da Vinci said, “The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and art.”

In addition, a unique wall painting technique was developed that creates a matte, suede-like effect. Bronze-toned brass elements complement the design, highlighting the curved shapes of the shelves and bookcases throughout the house.

Furniture

The interior features high-quality contemporary furniture from renowned brands: a kitchen by Key Cucine, upholstered pieces by Turri, chairs by B&B Italia, a sideboard and coffee tables by Henge, along with a dining table and chairs by Ceppi and Poltrona Frau. A rounded chandelier by Emmemobili hangs above the dining table.

Art and Accessories

A bronze tree titled Tree of Life, commissioned by sculptors Fedor and Polina Abramov, adds an artistic touch to the interior. Contemporary works by Dmitry Shorin add lightness and joy, complementing the biomorphic forms of the space.

Each project is a small creative journey for me, filled with dedication and a passion for beauty. This painstaking process requires valuable use of time, my most precious resource, which I dedicate exclusively to creating authentic beauty.
